Welcome to Spread Thunderbird! You are our marketing department -- a diverse community of people tired of email overload, spam, viruses, identity theft, and software that just doesn't work. You have a vision of the 21st century of how we can better communicate and we can not let monopolies dictate what that looks like. We'll provide the tools, but you will drive campaigns that will be rolled out here over the coming months. In that vein, Spread Thunderbird ("stb") follows the Mozilla community tradition:
- The community built Thunderbird (as it has Firefox). Over the last 10 years, thousands of individuals from around the world have invested countless hours to develop Thunderbird and the technologies it is built on. Hundreds of thousands of people already participate in Mozilla communities such as SpreadFirefox, Bugzilla, MozillaZine, and MozDev.
- The community is spreading the word about Thunderbird. Millions of people are already using Thunderbird. Thousands of websites already link to our Thunderbird page. People are deploying Thunderbird in Government, Large and Small Business, and at school.
- This site itself is a community effort, programmed and designed by volunteers using an open source community platform called Drupal.
We hope you'll bear with us as we ramp up development of this site in the coming months. In the future, Spread Thunderbird will coordinate a series of volunteer efforts to promote Thunderbird, and run campaigns to focus our community's energy on very tangible, specific goals. This is just a beta, and there are still validation errors and bugs on the site, so make sure to let us know if something's not working right or if you have ideas for cool new features. Register, sign in, and spread the word by adding a Thunderbird promo line to your email signature and one of our buttons to your web site (or your personal new Spread Thunderbird blog). Each time someone clicks on your link, you'll get a point, so you'll be able to see how much impact you're making. We highlight and publicize the ten most successful promoters in the "roll call" in the green bar on the right. In the future, prizes and pronounced placement on the wildly popular Mozilla website will offer additional motivation to bump yourself into the top ten. We also intend to beef up our referral tracking and award points for many other things besides referrals, such as donations and active participation in one of our marketing teams. Thanks and let's get to work! The Spread Thunderbird team -- Jamey, Ken, Paul, Rafael, Ian

Thunderbird Rocks
Bye Bye Outlook, too much headaches for simple tasks. TB couldn't be easier.
Thunderbird has many reported flaws and needs improvement
I am Thunderbird user for a long time. Never used Outlook or worse stuff. But I can't deny that Thunderbird makes me crazy sometimes for several flaws not corrected and that continues over and over, such as:
1. Emails with many jpg attached takes twice to download/save them: Thunderbird takes time to load all images to show them in the message window, and also shows their icons in the bottom window, where you can select "save all". BUT it always make the download job twice: it takes time to get all images to show AND takes time again to download every image again to save them. Why doesn't it save the already downloaded images instead?
2. Filters do not work smoothly. Many expressions in the filters' rules are systematicaly bypassed or neglected, even if they are simple as this: "on the spot", "mpeg", "[the list]", etc. It then does not move/copy the emails containing them from the inbox to other boxes as you wish.
The problem is worse with the "move" option, when you are using the ONLY two possible actions (why does it have only 2 options for actions? What if we want to copy the filtered messages to many boxes and then move them to another one? Thunderbird won't let you do this...)
And if you try again to apply the filter, it won't pass all emails again. You will have to do it manually, as with no filtering service...
3. The search window has an OLD and persistent problem in its GUI: after starting a search, if you want to stop it, the button will not return to a "start" state anymore: it will always show "searching". This was reported many versions back, but the error is still there. This confuses the user. Also, if you stop and start it again some times consecutively, it will produce garbage as output: something which does not have anything to do with your search expression, and also blank lines...
Additionally, it is not possible to configure the search windows to open with the field "from" as default: you can not reconfigure a default field option.
And worse: as you get your result from a search action, you CAN NOT copy a selected group of messages to another box: the ONLY option you have is to MOVE them... This limits what you can do after finding the messages you wanted...
I use it and like it, but there is still much to improve.
Thunderbird vs Gmail
I hate gmail the way it groups conversations together and would take thunderbird any day, and with all the problems of Outlook, I don't think that's a viable option.
Actually that's one of the
Actually that's one of the things I like about GMail. I wish there was an addon to do that for thunderbird - I've looked but the closest there is to it is colour tagging - and marking priority or using priorities to group things together by look.
I hate GMail for this very
I hate GMail for this very reason! I usually use Outlook but it has grown beyond the point of putting up with it. Software should be simple, Outlook is a complete nightmare. I have been using Thunderbird for only a week and already I have fallen in love with it, it's incredibly simple to do what I need to do with my multiple email accounts!
Thunderbird is becoming

Halloween Costumes
The content says there is a 21st century vision, let me know where i can find that, and i am interested to use that, since even it has firefox also. And is there any benefit for us if we use, as the content says we can earn points too.. Let me know about these, and let me know whether any trial is available to use.
Thunderbird is great
I have an email address where I get 100's of 1000's of spam emails. I use Thunderbird to pull all of those emails off of my server and it fixes my big email dilemma.

One of the reasons that Firefox has been successful is the extraordinary way that users have been mobilized as part of a vast, global marketing group without precedent.
Thank you for your constant efforts!
Thunderbird is a great mailclient - no need for outlook (exept: "Iphone Support)

I am using ThunderBird for some time. Well, it's not bad piece of software, like Outlook for example, but it could be better. Thunderbird is way far ahead then outlook especially when it comes on spending.
Newbie
I'll have to give Thunderbird a try. I've been a HUGE mozilla fan for a long time now, so switching over is going to take a killer product. We'll see if Thunderbird makes the cut. Golf Games

from outlook express to thunderbird
I was using Outlook express but a friend of mine told me about Thunderbird... It's really great, I'm sold! It seems there is a great community too!
Fly Thunderbird Fly
That's the same way I learnt about it. I was using Outlook and frustrated by it's limited retrieval rate, only about 100msgs an update. Firebird eases this and has an unlimited retrieval rate.
I agree
That was it!
Thanks!
great idea!

I am using Thunderbird and it
I am using Thunderbird and it is very nice email client, but when i do a search i can only use 1 window - like 1 search at the time, if i could make several searches at once it would be great. Keep up with a good work.

I agree with you, I'm using outlook for quite sometime and when I discover this thunderbird works very well with me.
Is this where we check in?
Roll call, hehe. At any rate, I posted about my experience with Thunderbird and past tries with Outlook in my first Spread THunderbird blog post. I'm excited and proud to be using it, and will do my part to help others with TB also.
From Outlook To Thunderbird!
Thunderbird has been great for my email needs. I like being able to add different extensions, and also its ease of use. You guys have done an awesome job on this email client. I can't remember the last time I fired up Outlook. I'm hoping that TB continues to expand and get even better in features and performance. But as it stands right now, the combination of Firefox and Thunderbird can't be beat! James Tayler
Just tried Thunderbird
After using Outlook for many years I have now shifted over to thunderbird. So far it is really great. The speed compared to outlook is amazing. Best regards Martin
